Betfair Voids Bets On Davydenko Match
3 August, 2007

(London, England) — Internet bookmaker Betfair has voided all bets on Nikolay Davydenko's Sopot Open match against Martin Vasallo Arguello after irregular betting patterns were noticed on the second-round game.

Davydenko, the defending champion, won the first set on Thursday but the Russian was later forced to retire due to a foot injury with his Argentine opponent leading 2-6 6-3 2-1.

Betfair issued a statement on Friday saying it had voided the bets after consulting with tour organisers, the ATP.

"Betfair suspended settlement of bets at the conclusion of the match yesterday because of concerns over irregular betting patterns," the statement said.

"The company has taken this action in the interests of maintaining integrity and fairness in all our markets."

A Betfair spokesman told Sky Sports News: "The prices seemed very odd.

"Davydenko started off as a 1/2 shot, which means if you put down a pound on him, you'd win 20 pence. He went on to win the first set.

"And yet, a set up, if you'd put a pound on him, you would have won £4.30p, clearly a lot more than when he was level at the start. That seemed to us to be very odd...there's something not right in that market."
