The 2007 World Series of Poker Guide
by Karl Yu, WinnerOnline
25 May, 2007

FEATURES

Continued from page 1

Joe Hachem won the championship event in 2005 and has been featured in a number of funny PokerStars commercials since. Vegas is laying 600-1 that he will win it again in 2007.

1989 WSOP Champion Phil Hellmuth is known by some as the “Poker Brat” largely because of his inability to lose with class. Hellmuth is listed at +20,000 to do the opposite this year and relive his 1989 glory.

Ben Affleck might have put his hard partying days behind him after his marriage to Jennifer Garner, but one thing he apparently hasn’t given up is poker playing and he is listed at +80,000 to win the 2007 World Series of Poker.

Props

Proposition betting offers a refreshing break from the usual “will they win?” bets and there are some interesting ones out there, especially from Bodog:

On the final hand in last year’s NL Hold’em Championship, Jamie Gold’s pair of Qs trumped Paul Wasicka’s pair of 10s. You can wager on this year’s winning hand with either a pair of red or black cards paying out at +200 and 1 red card and 1 black card listed at -150.

For those of you who don’t know, the World Series of Poker isn’t just limited to the No Limit Texas Hold’em Championship Main Event. Prior to that, there a number of other bracelets up for grabs in other events, i.e. Limit Hold’em, H.O.R.S.E. etc.

If you think WSOP vets Doyle Brunson (+800), Johnny Chan (+450) and Phil Hellmuth (+200) will win their 11th WSOP bracelet respectively, lay down some money and even if you don’t, step up to the plate anyways at -300.

As mentioned Jamie Gold came out of nowhere to take it all last year, if you think that a big name player will once again come out on top this year, the odds are listed at +1000.
