Bingo Glossary
by Meaghan Hutton
5 December 2003

Understanding how to play bingo is one thing, but getting the lingo down is another. When playing Bingo it is a good idea to get the Lingo down first.

Here's a list of Bingo Lingo that will be sure to help while playing.

Caller

The person who calls out Bingo numbers as they are drawn.

Chat room

A screen displayed alongside your game where you can type in messages to other players and read their responses.

Coverall/Blackout

A pattern where you must cover all numbers on the card to win.

Dauber

A foam-tipped bottle/pen filled with ink, which is used to mar the numbers called on paper Bingo cards.

Early bird game

A bingo game that starts before another regularly scheduled game.

Free Space

The center square of every Bingo Card, you get it free every game and it counts towards your winning pattern.

Fireball

Offered on all regular session games; Fireball begins with a $500 jackpot and progresses a percentage of the session sales until won. A plain Seven Feathers logo ball is added to the hopper. The player who wins directly after the logo ball is drawn, takes the jackpot, but only if his or her receipt is signed.

Game Board

The display board shows the Bingo balls and patterns in play.

Game Room

Online games divide the players into game rooms. The smaller group makes a more manageable chat room.

Hot Ball

The first number called on the first game is the hot ball number for the entire session. Players have the option of buying the Hot Ball at the admission counter. Each time a regular game session is won on the Hot Ball number, an extra prize is won. Hot Ball is progressive and increases with each game played.

Jackpot

A big prize usually awarded for achieving a difficult pattern (such as a blackout) within a specified number of balls.

Money Ball

A number drawn before the game starts that increases your prize if a Bingo is called on that particular number.

On-The-Way Bingo

On-The-Way means that a single game has more than one pattern. These patterns usually start with a simple line Bingo, progress to a more complex pattern then to a full card blackout. There is a payout for each pattern along the way.

Pattern Bingo

A specified pattern you need to cover on the Bingo card in order to win the game. You only need the numbers that form the pattern to win the game. The most basic patterns are straight lines in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal direction. One popular pattern is the "blackout" or "coverall" where you have to cover the whole card to win.

Rainbow Pack

Many Bingo Halls use a packet of assorted-coloured Bingo cards that allow players to play for more than one prize at once.

Super Jackpot

Sheet containing three faces and played in an On-The-Way style. The Super Jackpot begins at $1,500 and must be hit in less than 48 numbers. Progressive amount increases $500 per day and increases one number each day as well.

Wild Numbers

If the first number called in a game is G47, then all numbers ending in 7 will qualify as wild numbers and should be daubed in all cards.
