Tocchet Pleads Guilty In Gambling Case Updated 25 May 07
One of the central figures in the gambling ring investigation—involving a Phoenix Coyote assistant coach on leave, a NJ state trooper and a hockey hall of famer's wife—has pled guilty to promoting gambling and conspiracy.
Rick Tocchet appeared in Superior Court in Mount Holly, Burlington County on Friday and entered his plea.
Tocchet, Janet Gretzky, wife of Wayne Gretzky, and former NJ state trooper James Harney were all involved, in some way, to a gambling ring that was busted in February 2006.
Normally the sentence calls for a maximum of five years imprisonment, but Tocchet entered into a plea bargain that will help him avoid jail time and have charges of money laundering dropped against him.
