UK Commission: Novelty Bets Not Proper
Updated 29 May 07
The UK's Gambling Commission could implement restrictions on bets, namely of the proposition variety.

Citing fears of "corruption" and match-fixing from the UK's top sports leagues (soccer, cricket, rugby and tennis), the commission is considering limiting bets offered by books.

It is the assertion of the leagues that match-fixing in regards to things, such as when a yellow cards is handed out, are harder to prove.

Books countered by saying there is no evidence to suggest that such corruption exists and are against such restrictions.

"The number of wides [in Cricket] is a good example of the sort of bet we are worried about, as is the first yellow card," explained Lobbyist Tim Payton.

"Two individuals could fix that."
